Happy Halloween!

Guest blogger - Raven Taylor The leaves are turning orange. Suddenly the air is filled with the smell of woodsmoke as the first fires of the year are lit. Shop window displays are full of pumpkins, witches and skeletons. It can only mean one thing- the witching season is here and halloween is just around the corner. Halloween, or Samhain as it was known in the old days, is an ancient festival, dating back hundreds of years. It was traditionally the Celtic new year, and it is said it is the time when the veil between our world and that of the spirits is at its thinnest. It was the last of the three harvest festivals celebrated by old cultures, a time when the last of the animals were slaughtered and their meat stored for winter, and any remaining livestock were brought in from the fields. It was a time when dark nights started to creep in, driving people indoors to huddle around their fires, and with more time spent inside with the night pressing in, it was only nat...

Snag Tights- Inclusive, Practical and Body Positive!

For many years I worked in retail, for a very busy technology company. While most of my colleagues wore jeans I was known as the one who was always in a skirt and would draw surprised comments on the odd day that I did turn up in trousers. It being the UK though, and cold even in summer, tights have aways been an essential part of my outfit. But this didn’t come without problems. I am a short, very small person, and as the hosiery industry seemed hell bent on sticking to impractical sizing options, getting a pair of tights that really fit seemed impossible. We all know we aren’t all one size and no matter what material you use myself and my short little legs are never going to fit into the same size of tights as my very tall, long limbed friend. For me, the limited options would see me standing on the shop floor with a customer, uncomfortably ...

Sustainable Tights- The New Normal? (by Raven Taylor)

Sustainable Tights- The New Normal?   Guest blogger - Raven Taylor The environment: it’s a hot topic these days. I’m old enough to remember when kerbside recycling was first introduced to the UK in the early 2000s. It provoked a bemused reaction from my Grandma who exclaimed ‘if they think I’ve got enough time to be rinsing out tins of baked beans and sorting paper into boxes they’ve got another thing coming!’ Thankfully, since then we’ve all embraced this practice, and rinsing out those used jars and cans is now something most of us do without even thinking- though collection day still sees us tentatively waiting for the first neighbour on the street to put out their bin so we know which one is getting emptied this week! We’ve come a long way since those first steps towards trying to tackle the impact our waste has on the world. The green agenda is everywhere we look now, from stories about solar energy to messages about electric cars, we’re constantly be...
