7 Ways to Up-Cycle Your Old Tights!

I recently read an article that says tights are coming back into fashion. This surprised me as I had no idea they had gone out of fashion! I ’ ve always worn them, summer and winter, and rarely go bare legged while wearing a skirt. But if, like me, you see tights as a wardrobe staple then you ’ ll know that these simple garments, while stylish and great for keeping your legs cosy in the winter, aren ’ t always the most long lived of clothing items. They fall prey all to easily to snags and tears from any number of sources- a rough piece of wood on the edge of a chair, a friendly dog who feels the need to launch himself at you, or, worst of all, your own finger nails (usually when putting on a brand new pair- we all know that feeling). And perhaps we don ’ t always look after them as well as we should, because who has time for hand washing when you can just bung them in the machine? Because of all this, tights are often seen as a throw away accessories, lacking the longevity of our ot...

False Myths About Tights

There are too many urban legends and false myths about tights out there. You surely must have heard people claiming that they can’t stand tights or they prefer not to wear them because they are not comfortable to wear. We are here to help unveil those false myths about tights. What’s true? What’s just an urban legend? Keep reading to find out! False Myth No 1: Tights are uncomfortable to wear If you are reading this post, you already know it isn’t true that all tights are uncomfortable. This is the most extended false myth about tights by far. We aren’t saying that any tights you buy will automatically feel like a second skin, just like any pair of shoes won’t neccessarily fit you. That’s why buying the right pair and the right size for you is vital. When your tights slip down: This usually happens when your tights are worn off, especially with budget hosiery brands (you’ll rarely see this in a pair of Wolfords, for instance). If y...

Sustainable Tights- The New Normal? (by Raven Taylor)

Sustainable Tights- The New Normal?   Guest blogger - Raven Taylor The environment: it’s a hot topic these days. I’m old enough to remember when kerbside recycling was first introduced to the UK in the early 2000s. It provoked a bemused reaction from my Grandma who exclaimed ‘if they think I’ve got enough time to be rinsing out tins of baked beans and sorting paper into boxes they’ve got another thing coming!’ Thankfully, since then we’ve all embraced this practice, and rinsing out those used jars and cans is now something most of us do without even thinking- though collection day still sees us tentatively waiting for the first neighbour on the street to put out their bin so we know which one is getting emptied this week! We’ve come a long way since those first steps towards trying to tackle the impact our waste has on the world. The green agenda is everywhere we look now, from stories about solar energy to messages about electric cars, we’re constantly be...

Shiny Tights or Matt Tights? The Million-dollar Question!

To gloss or not to gloss; that’s the question.  The million-dollar question, along with the bare-leg or tights-on question we all ask ourselves at some point over the summer. Shiny tights (both sheer and opaque) are super trendy right now, but, still, many people out there prefer matt tights to glossy hosiery. We have asked the experts, AKA the lovely people at UK Tights. This is what they’ve said: Dawn loves wearing shiny tights “There are a great many people who believe that glossy tights are not the right thing to wear. Personally, I love shiny tights. The way they make your legs shimmer and shine as you walk is something that I find very appealing”. “ I simply adore sheer shiny tights . I like the smooth shine that gives your legs that just oiled look. You can also wear higher deniers when wearing sheers. This gives an even glossier look and can also address some of those issues with marks. Dawn’s all the time-favourite glossy sheer tights...

Dos and Don’ts of putting your tights on

If you’re new to wearing tights, hold ups and stockings or indeed any kind of legwear, you may not be aware of the pitfalls of putting these items on or taking them off. We thought it would be a good idea to give you a list of things to do and a list of things not to do when putting your tights and other hosiery on, which will help you prolong the life of your legwear. Putting your tights on the right way is vital if you plan to wear sheer legwear such as 10, 15 or, even, 20 denier hosiery. You’ll notice that these items are very delicate. The lower the denier , the more delicate the fabric. Therefore, it’s always best to do the following: Do… Make sure you have no snags on your fingernails . Use a good quality hand lotion and make sure your fingers and the skin around your fingers are soft and snag-free. Give your feet a treat Make sure your toenails are not long or sharp in any way by cutting them and, then, filing the edges so that they don...
